The answer is yes to both. While reading the excellent book, “Spark” by John Ratey, M.D., on the benefits of exercise, he shared a study that revealed low doses of stress, even radiation, actually causes the nervous system to improve the body’s response to stress.
Isn’t exercise on a consistent basis a form of controlled stress on the body? Yes, it is.
Before we shine too much light on the benefits of stress, we still must realize it can be deadly. A stressful, toxic diet on a steady basis, an abusive relationship, or an overwhelmingly mentally stressful job can do you in. There needs to be a “light at the end of the tunnel.” The “light” provides hope of a better tomorrow
Feel free to stress yourself with a steady dose of exercise. It will help you adapt more efficiently to the other stressors in your life.
